Current Civic and Professional Participation
John is an elected member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and the International Association of Defense Counsel. He is a sustaining life fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and the American Bar Foundation and a member of the State Bar of Texas, the American Bar Association, the Texas Association of Defense Counsel, and the Defense Research Institute. John is listed in Texas Monthly 2004 and 2005 “Texas Super Lawyers in Defense Litigation”.
Past and Present Work History
John has been a member of Gilbert and Gilbert since 1973, when he joined his father, Ralph W. Gilbert, in the practice of law. John maintains a civil litigation and appellate practice focusing on commercial litigation, personal injury, and products liability.
John received his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas in 1971 and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Baylor University in 1973. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the State Bar of Texas, 1982-1983; Past President of Brazoria County Bar Association; Past President of the Angleton Chamber of Commerce; Past President of Angleton Noon Lions Club; Elder and Trustee of First Presbyterian Church of Angleton; former member of the Board of Trustees of Angleton Independent School District; and retired Captain, U.S.A.R., 1971-1979.
He and his wife Nancy have four children and three grandchildren.
