Analyzing Work Processes: Finding Opportunities for Improvement

This unit demonstrates how to analyze work processes, uncover needless complexity and waste, and assess how "fit’ the organization’s work processes are in meting the needs of its customers. The skills of work process analysis allow managers to "take a snapshot" of this current state of a work process in order to find opportunities for improvement. Participants then bring these skills back to their own teams in order to review their work processes collectively and to explore ways to make them more effective. Following are some of the Key Actions to be learned in class:

  • Describe the work process to be improved
  • Determine key expectations of customers
  • Monitor the work process and compare performance to key expectations
  • List the opportunities for improvement
