The Professional Pharmacy Technician Program is a 153-hour course designed to teach you the fundamentals of working as a Pharmacy Technician. This program introduces you to various pharmacy settings and covers topics such as: drug classes, basic physiology, drug interactions, daily pharmacy operations and pharmacy calculations. Because on-the-job training is a critical part of the educational process, the program includes a 48-hour externship during which you will obtain hands-on experience working in a pharmacy. The program trains you to effectively assist in pharmaceutical preparations and complete the daily required tasks in any pharmacy environment. The program is offered in partnership with MK Education. To request more information from MK Education, go to http://programs.mkedu.org/brazopharmtech-summer14 .
The program runs for four to six months depending on it’s schedule. Tuition and textbooks are included. Students are required to apply for a Pharmacy Technican Trainee license at http://www.tsbp.state.tx.us. Currently the cost is $62, to be paid by the student. You will find additional information about rules and regulations at that site.
Prerequisites: High School Diploma or GED; all state- required immunizations if externship is completed in a hospital or medical facility; 10th grade math proficiency.
