Hispanic Heritage Month Kick-off Event
When: Monday, September 16th, 11:30-1:30
Where: BC Commons
What: Mariachi Band and salsa competition 
All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to submit salsa for the competition.  The winner of the salsa contest will receive a gift basket including a gift certificate to a local Hispanic restaurant.  Tasting will take place from 11:30-1:00, and the winner will be announced at 1:15 PM.
Hispanic Crafting
When: Wednesday, September 25th, 1:00-3:00
Where: Student Pavilion
What: An afternoon of Hispanic crafting
All students, faculty, and staff are invited to create a Hispanic masterpiece.  All materials will be provided and participants may take their artwork or leave it for display.
Documentary and Panel Discussion (Plus One Program)
When: Tuesday, October 1st, 7:00-9:00 PM
Where: Gator Hall
All students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend the showing of a Hispanic documentary followed by a panel discussion from various members of the Hispanic community.  This event will be included in the Plus One Program.
Salsa Dance Lessons
When: Wednesday, October 2nd, 6:30-8:30 PM
Where: BC Gym
Join us for a fun evening of salsa dance lessons in the BC gymnasium!  No previous experience or skills are necessary.
American Civil Liberties Union Speaker, sponsored by the Gay, Straight, Transgender Alliance (Plus One Program)
When: Wednesday, October 9th, 4:00-6:00 PM
Where: Gator Hall
Guest speaker Maida Asofsky from the Houston chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) will share information regarding issues of social justice including new voter ID regulations and ethnic preference in college admissions.  Question and answer session to follow will follow the speech.
Hispanic Heritage Month Closing Reception
When: Monday, October 14th, 4:00-6:00 PM
Where: Student Pavilion
Close Hispanic Heritage Month with a reception featuring Latin music, tapas, and a display of student essays and photographs. 
Essay and photo submissions will be taken from any current BC students.  Students should write a one page, double spaced, 12 pt. font essay on “My Hispanic Heritage”.  With the essay, students will submit an original photo (not taken from Google or clip art) that depicts what Hispanic Heritage means to them.  The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, October 9th at 5:00 PM, and they can be sent to Kelli Forde at  The first ten submissions will receive a $10 gift card to the BC Bookstore.
