E-Tutoring Support Information

This section provides answers to questions you may have concerning online tutoring services. If you can't find an answer here, please email us with your questions.

What computer equipment will I need?

You will need to have a computer that has internet access. With this alone you can text "chat" with the e-Tutor once you access the Meeting Room. Additional equipment would be a headset or mic and a web-camera (if purchasing a web-cam the web-meetings does NOT support the H.264 or high definition codec) . This additional OPTIONAL equipment would allow you to speak and have the E-Counselor see you during the live meeting.

Can I use my mobile device such as an iPad, iPod touch, or iPhone for either web-meetings or chat?

Yes you can! Although for web-meetings you currently can only use an iPad, iPod touch or the iPhone. You will also need to download the Blackboard Collaborate mobile web conferencing app from the App Store. This app is a free download.

When can I make contact with an e-Tutor?

You can email e-Tutors (writingcenter@brazosport.edu) to schedule an online meeting or ask questions at anytime. You can also access the e-Tutor's Meeting Room during open hours. Open hours for the meeting room are Monday through Thursday 9:00 am to 8:00 pm and Fridays 9:00am to 12:00 pm.

Are there any browser requirements for chatting?

Chat works directly via your browser, no downloads are necessary. The only requirement is for your browser to have JavaScript enabled. Currently most browsers have this pre-set. If you need directions on how to do this, open your browser, go to google.com or your favorite search engine and search for "how to enable javascript". Scroll through selections to match the one for your browser type.

I am having trouble working getting into the Meeting Room, what should I do?

There are several things you can do to make sure your computer is set properly for working with the meeting room.

  • Do a system check prior to entering the room.
  • Configure your System (check audio and video)
  • If using Internet Explorer (IE), make sure you allow it to "Open" or "Download" meeting.jnlp. Depending on the version you are running IE will indicate this files needs to download in a yellow bar at either the top under the address bar or the bottom of the browser window. The following image is of this indicator located on the bottom of the browser window for IE version 9:
