BC’s ATX Jumpstart program registering new students
Brazosport College’s free Accelerate Texas (ATX) Jumpstart program is currently registering for a new semester.
The ATX Jumpstart program is a 15-week program that assists students in earning both GED and NCCER certifications. The program is funded by an Accelerate Texas grant.
The ATX program provides marketable skills awards to students who want to get jobs as entry-level pipefitter helpers. Successful participants will earn industry-recognized certificates and a Marketable Skills Award from Brazosport College.
The fall semester ATX program starts on Aug. 15 with a registration session for the GED portion of the ATX grant. GED classes will start Aug. 15, as well, and will be in session every Monday and Wednesday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. through Dec. 15.
Registration for the Jumpstart portion of the grant will be conducted on Aug. 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with pipefitting classes starting on Aug. 30 with classes conducted every Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Dec. 15.
ATX grant funding is available for all qualified students. Applicants must pass a qualifying test and must be willing to commit four days a week to the program.
To ensure potential students know their options, Brazosport College is offering some information sessions that not only outlines the ATX Jumpstart and GED programs, but also allows time for questions and answers. The sessions will be in the Community Education Department Room B117 on the BC main campus.
Dates and times for upcoming information sessions are:
— July 26 at 1 p.m.
— Aug. 2 at 1 p.m.
— Aug. 9 at 1 p.m.
Graduating students will earn nine college credit hours, a Marketable Skills Award from Brazosport College, an NCCER Core Curriculum Certification and Blue Card, and an NCCER Level 1 Pipefitter Helper Certification.
