Brazosport Choral Union to close concert season April 22
The final performance of the 2016-2017 season by the Brazosport Choral Union will be at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 22 in the performance hall of The Clarion at Brazosport College.
Led by Rodney Mason, Director of Choral Activities at Brazosport College, and accompanied by Dawn Grimes, the Choral Union will present music evoking sentiments of the Spring season.
The program, titled “Revecy Venir le Printemps” (Look Here, the Spring is Coming), features Randall Thompson’s famous “Alleluia;” Mozart’s “Laudate Pueri” from his “Solemn Vespers;” “Afternoon on a Hill,” a setting of Millay’s poem by Barnum; the swing-era “Sunday Kind of Love,” arranged by K. Shaw; a setting of “Sure on this Shining Night” by Morten Lauridsen; “French Choruses” from “The Lark” by L. Bernstein, featuring soloists Makayla Dunn, Leda Rice and Gabrielle Tyler; and “River in Judea” by Jack Feldman.
The chorus is made up of the Brazosport College Chamber Choir, Brazosport College Singers and the Brazosport Civic Chorus. The Brazosport College Jazz singers will also be featured. Members of this combined group will be participating in one of the Lutherfest concerts, led by maestro Helmut Rilling in Berlin, Germany this summer.
The program is free and open to the public.
