New class introduces BC students to the mass communication field

Tue Jul 10, 2018

In this age of social media and media influences, it’s never been more important to understand how mass communication works. Beginning in the fall 2018 semester, Brazosport College will help students learn more about this fast-moving field.

An online class, Introduction to Mass Communication (COMM 1307), will provide students a look at the functions of media, its influences on society and the different types of media, among other topics within the communications field.

The new online course will be taught by Alexandria Williams, a Marketing and Public Relations Specialist for KHOU Channel 11 in Houston.

Williams’ class will be hands-on and students will learn the basic fundamentals of mass communication through presentations and critiques.

Williams is a graduate from the College of Business at Prairie View A&M University with a focus in marketing. After graduation, she worked as a communications specialist for the Alzheimer’s Association in Houston. Less than a year later, she was promoted to the first-ever Marketing Manager for that chapter, serving on various boards and consulting on national projects. Currently, Williams has been with KHOU Channel 11 for almost three years.

She has a master’s degree in mass communications from Purdue University.
