Steve Hunt Trio

When the name Steve Hunt is mentioned in the Brazosport area, there are three things that immediately come to mind: jazz, pianos and the Hunt family. Steve’s family is musical royalty in Brazosport. His father, Jim Hunt, was a musician, music store owner and brought jazz education into the Brazosport schools. His mother, Katie, and sister, Audry, are local piano teachers extraordinaire. Audry is also a ubiquitous musician. Wherever music is being played, you can find Audry playing piano, flute, clarinet or sax.
Even at a young age, everyone knew that Steve was headed for greatness. Steve graduated from Brazoswood High in 1977 and left the area to attend Berkelee School of Music in Boston. After graduating from Berkelee, he began performing, recording and touring. Steve quickly became more than just a Brazosport legend. He developed an international reputation as one of the finest jazz piano players in the business. The evidence is in list of musicians that Steve has performed and recorded with, which reads like Who’s Who of jazz. A few of the names on the list include Stanley Clarke, Freddie Hubbard, Ramsey Lewis and Stanley Turrentine.
Today, Steve divides his time between teaching at Berkelee and composing and performing with his own trio. The Steve Hunt Trio will perform a free concert at The Clarion at Brazosport College on Friday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m.
