Why not give yourself a competitive edge by taking a sophomore level genetics course to learn and understand the essential principles within the context of a lower-intensity elective course without a required lab component at the junior college tuition price?
 
What will I learn in Genetics? At every life stage, our inherited genetic identity shapes who we are, how we act and behave, and even whom we are attracted to as a mate. Genetics 2316 seeks to demystify this process by providing a balanced introduction to classical, Mendelian, and molecular genetics based on current and historical scientific genetics principles and real-life genetics applications. The course emphasizes the concepts of Mendelian inheritance patterns, population genetics, genetic engineering, and micro & macro evolutionary principles. Further, the course will introduce students to how genetics impacts their lives, from how gene mutations affect human health & disease, to future alterations in agricultural food production.​
 
Do I need to take any courses before Genetics? General Biology 1406, grade of C or higher. College-level reading and writing required
 
Registration Info: 3 credit hours; this is a non-laboratory science course; this course will fulfill science course required credits for the Associate of Science degree program; this course will not fulfill core-curriculum science course credit requirements
 
Transfer Info: This course should be accepted as science transfer credits among life science-based Bachelor of Science programs (e.g. Biology, Biochemistry, etc...) at Texas State Universities. However, be sure to check on this with your future program's academic advisor or counselor before registering for this course.
 
Measurable Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will: Understand principles of inheritance. Describe transmission methods of hereditary materials. Understand the role of DNA and its functions within the cell. Understand the genetics of both individual and populations. Understand evolutionary theory.
