The Student Success Center at Brazosport College recently earned recertification as a Level 1 International Tutor Training Program by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).
The International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) signifies that Brazosport College’s tutoring program meets national standards and plays an important role toward student learning and success.
Brazosport College’s Level 1 recertification is a three-year renewal.
According to a statement, The CRLA praised Brazosport College’s Student Success Center for its “good attention to detail” and how the school “goes beyond the requirements for Level 1” certification.
To receive certification, Brazosport College was required to show evidence of supervised, live, interactive and real-time tutor training on a variety of topics in different delivery mediums, among other requirements.
“Pat Jeffreys, our SI coordinator, as well as Rebecca Goins, our tutor coordinator, worked tirelessly in training our tutors and submitting the proper documentation,” said BC Student Success Center Director Kelley O’Neal. “They worked to ensure that our tutor program remains at the cutting edge of innovation, so BC can continue to lead our students toward academic success.”
Brazosport College will be working on earning Level 2 certification in the near future.
Seventeen BC tutors have fulfilled Level 1 certification requirements, including Christina Acevedo, Penney Beatty, Sarah Coleman, Dustin Doddroe, Marva Doss, Carol Gaetke, Rebecca Goins, Pat Jeffreys, Aaron Kirk, Ryan Lacroix, Lynn Long, Linda McGown, Georgia Monnerat, Philip Rodriguez, Brandon Shiflet, Mary Lou Stepien and Beverly Stimson.
The ITTPC certifies the program and then the program certifies the tutors once requirements are completed. BC faculty and staff administered a majority of the tutor training.
