Brazosport College is offering a three-night guitar workshop with guitarist Evan Oxenhandler.
Oxenhandler, a guitar instructor at Brazosport College, will cover topics ranging from, but not limited to, chord voicings, improvisation, theory, repertoire, aural skills and technique. His primary area of expertise is jazz, however practitioners of all genres are welcome.
Oxenhandler’s Summer Guitar Workshop is scheduled for Monday, July 28, Wednesday, July 30 and Friday, August 1. Class times are 5:30 to 7 p.m.
This class is intended as an intermediate level course. Participants should have a good understanding of the following areas in order to sign up: basic chords (open and barre), scales (major and blues), alternate picking, basic harmony and some technical proficiency.
Oxenhandler will cover the fundamentals of intermediate guitar, and will also tailor the class to meet the individual needs of the students.
Oxenhandler attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, the Berklee College of Music in Boston and the University of North Texas. While at UNT, he served as a jazz guitar teaching fellow and studied under Fred Hamilton and Richard McClure. Along the way, he performed with the internationally-acclaimed UNT One O’clock Lab Band. He completed his master’s degree at UNT in 2012.
Oxenhandler composes, teaches and performs. His style can be described as a complex bouquet of styles and influences, which includes swing, Latin, world music, rock, funk and blues.
