 Course Description

 
HART 1310 Shop Practices and Tools. CIP 1505010011
This course is an introduction to safety, tools, tubing operations, soldering and brazing techniques, piping and electrical soldering. Wiring practices. (3 SCH, 2 lecture, 2 lab)
Prerequisite: None.
 
HART 1380 Cooperative Education I - Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Technicians. CIP 1505010011
Career related activities encountered in the student’s area of specialization offered through an individualized agreement among the college, employer, and student. Under supervision of the college and the employer, the student combines classroom learning with work experience. Includes a lecture component. (3 SCH, 1 lecture, 20 lab)
Prerequisite: HART 1370, HART 1401, HART 1407, and approval of the division chair.
 
HART 1381 Cooperative Education II - Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Technicians. CIP 1505010011
Career related activities encountered in the student’s area of specialization offered through an individualized agreement among the college, employer, and student. Under supervision of the college and the employer, the student combines classroom learning with work experience. Includes a lecture component. (3 SCH, 1 lecture, 20 lab)
Prerequisite: HART 1380 and approval of the division chair.
 
HART 1401 Basic Electricity for HVAC. CIP 1505010011
Principles of electricity as required by HVAC, including proper use of test equipment, electrical circuits, and component theory and operation. (4 SCH, 3 lecture, 2 lab)
Prerequisite: None.
 
HART 1407 Refrigeration Principles. CIP 1505010011
An introduction to the refrigeration cycle, heat transfer theory, temperature/pressure relationship, refrigerant handling, refrigeration components, and safety. (4 SCH, 3 lecture, 2 lab)
Prerequisite: None.
 
HART 1441 Residential Air Conditioning. CIP 1505010011
Components, applications, and installation of mechanical air conditioning systems including operating conditions, troubleshooting, repair, and charging of air conditioning systems. (4 SCH, 3 lecture, 2 lab)
Prerequisite: HART 1370, HART 1401, and HART 1407 or approval of the division chair.
 
HART 1445 Gas and Electric Heating. CIP 1505010011
Study of the procedures and principles used in servicing heating systems including gas fired furnaces and electric heating systems. (4 SCH, 3 lecture, 2 lab)
Prerequisite: HART 1370, HART 1407, and HART 1401 or approval of the division chair.
 
HART 2334 Advanced Air Conditioning Controls. CIP 1505010011
Theory and application of electrical control devices, electromechanical controls, and/or pneumatic controls. (3 SCH, 2 lecture, 2 lab)
Prerequisite: HART 1401 or approval of the division chair.
 
HART 2380 Cooperative Education III - Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Technicians. CIP 1505010011
Career related activities encountered in the student’s area of specialization offered through an individualized agreement among the college, employer, and student. Under supervision of the college and the employer, the student combines classroom learning with work experience. Includes a lecture component. (3 SCH, 1 lecture, 20 lab)

HART 2431 Advanced Electricity for HVAC. CIP 1505010011
Advanced electrical instruction and skill building in installation and servicing of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment including detailed instruction in motors and power distribution, motors, motor controls, and application of solid state devices. (4 SCH, 3 lecture, 2 lab)
Prerequisite: HART 1401 or approval of the division chair.
 
HART 2441 Commercial Air Conditioning. CIP 1505010011
A study of components, applications, and installation of air conditioning systems with capacities of 25 tons or less. (4 SCH, 3 lecture, 2 lab)
Prerequisite: HART 1401, HART 1407, and HART 2334 or approval of the division chair.
 
HART 2442 Commercial Refrigeration. CIP 1505010011
Theory of and practical application in the maintenance of commercial refrigeration; medium, and low temperature applications, and ice machines. (4 SCH, 3 lecture, 2 lab)
Prerequisite: HART 1370, HART 1407, and HART 1401 or approval of the division chair.
 
HART 2445 Residential Air Conditioning Systems Design. CIP 1505010011
A study of the properties of air and results of cooling, heating, humidifying or dehumidifying: Heat gain and heat loss calculations including equipment selection and balancing the air system. (4 SCH, 3 lecture, 2 lab)
Prerequisite: None.
 
HART 2449 Heat Pumps. CIP 1505010011
A study of heat pumps, heat pump control circuits, defrost controls, auxiliary heat, air flow, and other topics related to heat pump systems. (4 SCH, 3 lecture, 2 lab)
