An introductory college course which introduces the
beginning speech student to general principles of the Speech
Communication field. The course will provide instruction in
specific speech preparation techniques and basic communication
skills appropriate to students’ further academic and professional
careers. Students are expected to prepare, organize, deliver, and
critique several speeches achieving the aims of informative and

This course examines communication on a personal level from
both the speaker’s and the listener’s point of view. The study
includes self-awareness exercises as well as the techniques of
effective communication between individuals and among the

This course is designed to prepare students for business and
professional situations. Students will develop self-confidence in
speaking, implement analytical and organizational skills, build
arguments and use creativity to make persuasive and artful
