and the processes of art through critical examination of historical
and contemporary works. Students will gain an

A chronological examination of painting, sculpture, architecture,
and related visual arts from prehistoric times to the
end of the middle ages. Students will gain an understanding
of the impact on art from individuals, historical events, religious

A beginning course investigating a variety of media, techniques,
and subjects, including the fundamentals of line,
shape, texture, space, and composition. Explores the theory
and practice of expressive possibilities in drawing. (3

Expansion of Drawing I, stressing the expressive and conceptual
aspects of drawing in a variety of media and subject

A further investigation into the problems of two-dimensional
and three-dimensional form, with individual expression

Basic instruction in the use of painting media with emphasis
on color and composition. Students will complete a

Expansion of Drawing II, with continued instruction on
structure and action of the human figure. Includes the use
of mixed media, color theory, and design principles. (3 SCH,

Exploration of ideas using sculpture media and techniques.

An introduction to basic ceramic processes. Students complete
a range of projects that explore the creative and technical
aspects of working with clay. Pinch, coil, slab, and

Opportunities for specialization in ceramic processes. (3

ARTS 2356 Digital Photography I. CIP 5006055126
An introduction to the basics of digital photography.
Includes camera operation, techniques and presentation
skills. Emphasis on design, history and contemporary
trends as a means of developing an understanding of photographic
aesthetics. (3 SCH, 2 lecture, 4 lab)


ARTS 2357 Digital Photography II. CIP 5006055226
Extends the students’ knowledge of technique and guides
them in developing personal outlooks toward specific
applications of the photographic process. (3 SCH, 2 lecture,
4 lab)
Prerequisite: ARTS 2356 or approval of the division chair.


ARTS 2366 Watermedia I. CIP 5007085326
A studio course exploring creative techniques in color and
composition using water-based media such as acrylic,
gouache, tempera, gesso, heavy gel medium, watercolor,
texture, and collage. (3 SCH, 1 lecture, 5 lab)

A further investigation of water-based media with instruction
in color and composition. (3 SCH, 1 lecture, 5 lab)
