What is VCT?
If Brazosport College schedule cannot provide the course that you need to continue in your program, we may be able to contract with another college to provide a teacher for that course. The Virtual College of Texas provides a system for identifying and reserving those courses. The student will complete the class though the Course Management System used by that instructor (usually at another college).
Registration and Fees
Once the course is approved by the appropriate Department and Dean, it will be added to the BC schedule with a Reg (registration) number, reserved in the name of the specific student. That student or an appropriate representative will need to come on campus for registraton so that the Registrar's Office can insure the match of the registrant and the reservationist. Fees are due at the same time as any other BC course.
Grades and Transcripts
Grades for VCT courses are posted and transcripted at BC. Due to transmittal time, the grade may be posted at a slightly later period than other BC courses. Transcripts may be reguested though the (link to) Registrar's Office.
The Registration Process
After completing READI (see the Distance Learning web page), call, email, or visit one of the contacts on the right with the following information: student first and last name, student ID number (not SSN, this number is available though the registrar's office), phone number, email address, and desired course. See www.vct.org and search the schdule for courses.
If the course has been previously approved, a slot will be reserved for the student for the course through VCT, then appropriate proceedures will be completed to create the course in the BC system. This usually takes a day. The student will complete registration and pay fees as described above.
If the course/instructor has not been approved, a request for approval of the syllabus will be sent to the division chair/faculty and a request for approval of the faculty will be sent to the Academic Dean. If the course/instructor is approved, the student will be contacted to complete the process described above.
Some courses offered through VCT are not approved due to differences in course requirements, content, or instructor credentialing requirements.
