I came to the great state of Texas from New Mexico in 2006 specifically to teach at Brazosport College.  To me some of the greatest things in life should be enjoyed over and over again so I a few of my accomplishments I am most proud of are: I have seen the movie Twister 35 times(ask me sometime about the dialogue –I know it by heart).  My favorite author is J.D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts) I have read her “In Death” series 5 times (that is 31 books folks) and I have seen the late great Chris LeDoux in concert 11 times! I’m known as the “Frog Lady” around campus,  I have an extensive collection of frogs—stemming from one obscure comment of “ I like frogs” now I have over 100 frogs, most of which are in my office. 

I also enjoy walking the beach with my two dogs (Dallas and Cheyenne- rat-terrier/dachshund mix) and I love to go to the movies. 

 In a previous life I taught elementary and special education.  After six years, I decided I had watched enough Discovery Channel that I really wanted to learn more about the planet we live on and the processes of life so I went back to school and earned a masters degree in snail brains… I mean Biology.  My thesis was over neurotransmitters and how they work or don’t work together in the brain. Humans are really touchy about letting people cut them open and flood their brains with toxic levels of chemicals so I used snails as my test subject.

 I mainly teach Biology I and II here at BC, but I like to keep current in the other areas of our department so I have been known to teach Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Nutrition.  My teaching style is mainly lecture; I do however press for active learning so I like to incorporate group activities, presentations and applied assignments as well.
