2) Students must declare a major and/or be taking courses in a transfer curriculum to receive aid. Only one change of major (or change from a major to transfer curriculum) will subsequently be allowed.
3) Students must complete their degree or certificate, or transfer to a four-year institution, within a maximum time-frame of 90 hours. However, after completing 62 hours, the student will be placed on Financial Aid Review. The student will be eligible for financial aid while on Financial Aid Review provided the student submits to the financial aid office an official schedule of coursework (signed by a counselor) required to complete his/her degree, and the coursework meets the requirements per #1 above.
4) "Good Standing" means maintaining a cumulative B.C. grade point average of 2.0 (4.0=A, 3.0=B, 2.0=C, 1.0=D). If the student falls below the minimum grade point average, he/she is placed on financial aid probation for the following semester.
Note: "I" (incompletes) are handled on a case by case basis, weighing the incomplete credit hours as "F's" until completed. If incomplete hours lower the cumulative B.C. grade point average to below a 2.0 he/she is considered at financial aid risk and will be evaluated for probation or suspension, as appropriate.
5) Remedial Coursework: In order to determine "Good Standing" for remedial coursework, a passing or satisfactory mark must be attained for each remedial course (attempted/completed). In evaluating financial aid eligibility, any remedial course that is subsequently dropped or not passed will place the student on financial aid probation or suspension, as appropriate.
Note: Students are allowed a total of twenty-seven (27) remedial hours. Upon reaching the 27 hour limit, no need-based aid will be awarded for remedial hours taken. Remedial coursework taken at other college/vocational institutions will be counted toward the 27 cumulative remedial hours.
6) "Satisfactory Academic Progress" means completing at least 75% of course hours attempted (see #5 regarding remedial courses) for each semester of past/present enrollment:
A student who fails to make "satisfactory academic progress" will be placed on financial aid probation or suspension, as appropriate.
7) A student may receive aid while on financial aid probation.
If, during the semester, the student does not achieve "good standing" or again fails to make "satisfactory academic progress", he/she will be placed on financial aid suspension.
If, a student successfully completes two semesters satisfactorily while on probation and has no history of financial aid suspension, he/she will be taken off probation.
8) Students admitted on academic scholastic probation from a previous institution of higher education (college/trade school) will be automatically placed on financial aid probation. Aid may be received for one semester while on financial aid probation. If, during the semester, the student does not achieve "good standing" or again fails to make "satisfactory academic progress", he/she will be placed on financial aid suspension.
To be reinstated for financial aid, the student who is on financial aid suspension, must enroll for a minimum of six semester hours during one individual semester and raise his/her cumulative GPA to 2.0 (if placed on probation due to GPA) and must fulfill the satisfactory progress requirement.
If enrolled in a clock-hour program, the student must maintain progress as specified by that department. Failure to maintain satisfactory progress will place the student on financial aid probation.
Students with previous college/vocational institution experience transferring to Brazosport College are required to supply transcripts from all previously attended institutions of higher education. Transcripts for all schools previously attended will be evaluated using Brazosport College Financial Aid good standing and satisfactory academic progress guidelines.
Exceptions to requirements stated in points 1-8 may be made upon concurrence of the Financial Aid Administrator and the Dean of Students. Circumstances that may warrant exceptions include, but are not limited to: (a) extended medical confinement; (b) other absences beyond the student's control; (c) serious illness or death of a member of a student's immediate family; (d) change of major.
To be considered for an exception, the student must make a written appeal to the Financial Aid Administrator. Corroborating statements are required. If, after determination by the Financial Aid Administrator and Dean of Students the student is not satisfied, the student may appeal to the Brazosport College Financial Aid Committee. The recommendation of the committee will be forwarded to the President for approval.
