1) Financial aid will be authorized only for required courses, approved electives or pre-requisites in the student's major or course of study.
2) Students must declare a major and/or be taking courses in a transfer curriculum to receive aid. Only one change of major (or change from a major to transfer curriculum) will be allowed.
3) "Good Standing" means maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 (4.0=A, 3.0=B, 2.0=C, 1.0=D). If the student falls below the minimum grade point average, he/she is placed on financial aid probation for the following semester. Note: "I" (incompletes) are handled on a case by case basis, weighing the incomplete credit hours as "F's" until completed.
4) "Satisfactory Academic Progress" means completing at least 75% of course hours attempted (see #6 regarding transitional courses) for each sememster of past/present enrollment: A student who fails to make "satisfactory academic progress" will be placed on financial aid probation or suspension, as appropriate.
Students who withdraw or are dropped from all courses, receive a grade of "F" in all courses, or receive a combination of all W's and F's in all courses, may be required to repay a portion of funds received for the semester.
5) Review-After attempting 62 hours, the student will be place on Financial Aid Review. The student will be eligible for financial aid while on Financial Aid Review provided the student submits to the financial aid office an official degree audit of the courses required to complete his/her degree, and the coursework meets the requirements per #1 above. Financial Aid Review students must submit current schedule of coursework each semester to the Financial Aid office before Financial Aid will be released. To remain eligible, students must complete their degree/certificate, or transfer to a four-year institution, within a maximum time-frame of 90 hours with the exception of BAT students who will have 180 hours to complete their degree.
6) Transitional Coursework: A passing or satisfactory mark must be attained for each transitional course (attempted/completed). Any transitional course that is dropped or not passed will place the student on financial aid probation or suspension, as appropriate. Note: Students are allowed a total of twenty-seven (27) transitional hours. Transitional coursework taken at other college/vocational institutions will be counted toward the 27 cumultative transitional hours.
7) Financial Aid Probation/Suspension:
-
A student may be placed on financial aid probation if, during the semester, the student does not achieve "good standing," "satisfactory academic progress," and/or "transitional cousework requirements" stated above in #3, 4, 6. While on probation, a student may still receive financial aid. A student may be removed from financial aid probation and placed in good standing if , he/she satisfactorily completes two semesters while on probation and has no history of financial aid suspension.
-
While on financial aid probation, if the student doe not achieve "good standing," "satisfactory academic progress," and or "transitional coursework requirements" the student will then be placed on financial aid suspension. To be reinstated for financial aid, the student who is on suspension must enroll for a minimum of six semester hours during one individual semester, raise his/her cumulative GPA to 2.0 (if placed on probation due to GPA) and must fulfill the satisfactory academic progress requirement. Once these requirements are met, the student will be placed on financial aid permanent probation for the remainder of their academic career.
Students admitted on academic scholastic probation/suspension from a previous institution of higher education (college/trade school) will be automatically placed on financial aid probation. Aid may be received for one semester while on financial aid probation. However, no aid may be received while on financial aid suspension.
8) If enrolled in a clock-hour program, the student must maintain progress as specified by that department. Failure to maintain satisfactory progress will place the student on financial aid probation.
9) Exceptions to requirements stated in points 1-8 may be made upon concurrence of the Financial Aid Specialist, Financial Aid Director and the Dean of Student Services. Circumstances that may warrant exceptions include, but are not limited to: (a) extended medical confinement; (b) other absences beyond the student's control; (c) serious illness or death of a member of a student's immediate family; (d) change of major. To be considered for an exception, the student must make a typed appeal to the Director of Financial Aid. Corroborating statements are required. If, after determination by the Financial Aid Specialist, Director of Financial Aid and Dean of Student Servjces the student is not satisfied, the student may appeal to the Brazosport College Financial Aid Committee. The recommendation of the committee will be forwarded to the President for approval.
