 Course Description

 

ARCE 1352 Structural Drafting. CIP 0409010002

A study of structural systems including concrete foundations and frames, wood framing and trusses, and structural steel framing systems. Includes detailing of concrete, wood, and steel to meet industry standards including the American Institute of Steel Construction and The American Concrete Institute. (3 SCH, 2 lecture, 2 lab)

Prerequisite: DFTG 1305 or approval of the division chair.

ARCE 2344 Statics and Strength of Materials. CIP 0409010002

The study of internal effects of forces acting upon elastic bodies and the resulting changes in form and dimensions, including units on stress, shear, bending moments, and simple beam design. (3 SCH, 3 lecture, 0 lab)

Prerequisite: ENTC 1310 or approval of the division chair.

 

DFTG 1305 Technical Drafting. CIP 1513010011

Introduction to the principles of drafting to include terminology and fundamentals, including size and shape descriptions, projection methods, geometric construction, sections, auxiliary views, and reproduction processes. (3 SCH, 2 lecture, 2 lab)

Prerequisite: None.

DFTG 1309 Basic Computer-Aided Drafting. CIP 1513020011

An introduction to basic computer-aided drafting. Emphasis is placed on drawing setup; creating and modifying geometry; storing and retrieving predefined shapes; placing, rotating, and scaling objects, adding text and dimensions, using layers, coordinating systems, and plot/print to scale. (3 SCH, 2 lecture, 2 lab)

Prerequisite: DFTG 1305 or approval of the division chair.

DFTG 1317 Architectural Drafting - Residential. CIP 1513030011

Architectural drafting procedures, practices, and symbols, including preparation of detailed working drawings for residential structure with emphasis on light frame construction methods. (3 SCH, 2 lecture, 2 lab)

Prerequisite: DFTG 1305 or approval of the division chair.

DFTG 1325 Blueprint Reading and Sketching. CIP 1513010011

An introduction to reading and interpreting working drawings for fabrication processes and associated trades. Use of sketching techniques to create pictorial and multiple-view drawings. (3 SCH, 2 lecture, 2 lab)

Prerequisite: None.

DFTG 1358 Electrical/Electronics Drafting. CIP 1513050011

Electrical and electronic drawings stressing modern representation used for block diagrams, schematic diagrams, logic diagrams, wiring/assembly drawings, printed circuit board layouts, motor control diagrams, power distribution diagrams, and electrical one-line diagrams. (3 SCH, 2 lecture, 2 lab)

Prerequisite: DFTG 1305 or approval of the division chair.

DFTG 1380 Cooperative Education I - Drafting. CIP 1513010011

Career related activities encountered in the student’s area of specialization offered through an individualized agreement among the college, employer, and student. Under supervision of the college and the employer, the student combines classroom learning with work experience. Includes a lecture component. (3 SCH, 1 lecture, 20 lab)

Prerequisite: Approval of the division chair.

DFTG 1381 Cooperative Education II - Drafting. CIP 1513010011

Career related activities encountered in the student’s area of specialization offered through an individualized agreement among the college, employer, and student. Under supervision of the college and the employer, the student combines classroom learning with work experience. Includes a lecture component. (3 SCH, 1 lecture, 20 lab)

Prerequisite: DFTG 1380 and approval of the division chair.

DFTG 2302 Machine Drafting. CIP 1513060011

Production of detail and assembly drawings of machines, threads, gears, cams, tolerances and limit dimensioning, surface finishes, and precision drawings. (3 SCH, 2 lecture, 2 lab)

Prerequisite: DFTG 1305 or approval of the division chair.

DFTG 2319 Intermediate Computer-Aided Drafting. CIP 1513020011

A continuation of practices and techniques used in basic computer-aided drafting emphasizing advanced dimensioning techniques, the development and use of prototype drawings, construction of pictorial drawings, construction of 3 dimensional drawings, interfacing 2D and 3D environments, and extracting data. (3 SCH, 2 lecture, 2 lab)

Prerequisite: DFTG 1309 or approval of the division chair.

DFTG 2323 Pipe Drafting. CIP 1513020011

A study of pipe fittings, symbols, specifications and their applications to a piping process system. This application will be demonstrated through the creation of symbols and their usage in flow diagrams, plans, elevations, and isometrics. (3 SCH, 2 lecture, 2 lab)

Prerequisite: DFTG 1305 or approval of the division chair.

DFTG 2328 Architectural Drafting - Commercial. CIP 1513030011

Architectural drafting procedures, practices, and symbols including the preparation of detailed working drawings for a commercial building, with emphasis on commercial construction methods. (3 SCH, 2 lecture, 2 lab)

Prerequisite: DFTG 1305 or approval of the division chair.

DFTG 2332 Advanced Computer-Aided Drafting. CIP 1513020011

Advanced techniques, including the use of a customized system. Presentation of advanced drawing applications, such as three-dimensional solids modeling and linking graphic entities to external non-graphic data. (3 SCH, 2 lecture, 2 lab)

Prerequisite: DFTG 1309 and DFTG 2319 or approval of the division chair.

DFTG 2338 Final Project - Advanced Drafting. CIP 1513020011

A drafting course in which students participate in a comprehensive project from conception to conclusion. (3 SCH, 2 lecture, 2 lab)

Prerequisite: DFTG 1305 and DFTG 1309.

DFTG 2345 Advanced Pipe Drafting. CIP 1513020011

A continuation of pipe drafting concepts building on the basic principles acquired in pipe drafting. (3 SCH, 2 lecture, 2 lab)

Prerequisite: DFTG 2323.

DFTG 2380 Cooperative Education III - Drafting. CIP 1513010011
