EPCT 1311 Introduction to Environmental Science. CIP 1505070011

A foundation course for environmental studies, this course will provide an overview of environmental science and current global concerns, a brief history of environmental ethics, resource use, and conservation, and a discussion of fundamental principles of resource economics and environmental health. (3 SCH, 3 lecture, 0 lab)

Prerequisite: OSHT 1401 or approval of the division chair.

EPCT 1350 Basic Statistics and Calculations for Environmental Technicians. CIP 1505070011

The application of math skills and chemical knowledge in solving environmental technology problems. (3 SCH, 3 lecture, 0 lab)

Prerequisite: OSHT 1401 and a working knowledge of algebra and basic chemistry or approval of the division chair. 

EPCT 1441 Principles of Industrial Hygiene. CIP 1505070011

Basic concepts in threshold limits, dose response, and general recognition of occupational hazards, including sampling statistics, calibration, and equipment use. A study of the control of occupational hazards and sample collection and evaluation methods. (4 SCH, 3 lecture, 1 lab)

Prerequisite: OSHT 1401, EPCT 1350 and OSHT 1405 or OSHT 2401 or approval of the division chair.

EPCT 2300 DOT Regulations. CIP 1505070011

A detailed study of United States Department of Transportation regulations with emphasis on identifying applicable regulations recommending compliance strategies in the transport of dangerous and hazardous materials. Examination of the regulatory requirements for employees and employers involved in all modes of transportation, including road, rail, aircraft, and vessel. Designed for students working with safety and regulatory issues of pipelines, railcars and tanker trucks. (3 SCH, 3 lecture, 0 lab)

Prerequisite: One of the following courses: OSHT 1309, OSHT 1401, OSHT 1405 or OSHT 2401 or approval of the division chair.

OSHT 1309 Physical Hazards Control. CIP 1507010011

A study of the common physical hazards in industry and methods of workplace design and redesign to control hazards. Emphasis on the regulation codes and standards associated with the control of physical hazards. Designed to be a review of the plant workplace and to focus on best practices in hazard control. (3 SCH, 3 lecture, 0 lab)

Prerequisite: OSHT 1405 or OSHT 2401 or approval of the division chair.

OSHT 1380 Cooperative Education I - Occupational Safety and Health Technician. CIP 1507010011

Career related activities encountered in the student’s area of specialization offered through an individualized agreement among the college, employer, and student. Under supervision of the college and the employer, the student combines classroom learning with work experience. Includes a lecture component. The student must be employed and work 320+ hours during the term. (3 SCH, 1 lecture, 20 lab)

Prerequisite: Concurrent registration in additional credit course.

OSHT 1381 Cooperative Education II - Occupational Safety and Health Technician. CIP 1507010011

Career related activities encountered in the student’s area of specialization offered through an individualized agreement among the college, employer, and student. Under supervision of the college and the employer, the student combines classroom learning with work experience. Includes a lecture component. The student must be employed and work 320+ hours during the term. OSHT 1380 and OSHT 1381 may not be taken simultaneously. (3 SCH, 1 lecture, 20 lab)

Prerequisite: OSHT 1380, concurrent registration in additional credit course and approval of the division chair. 

OSHT 1401 Introduction to Safety and Health. CIP 1507010011

An introduction to the basic concepts of safety and health. This course is intended for students who need to refresh or enhance their understanding of fundamental science and safety and health concepts before taking any other course in the Safety, Health, and Environmental Management program. The course will review fundamental concepts of physics, chemistry, biology, human physiology, occupational illnesses and injuries and will provide an introduction to workers’ compensation, safety, health and environmental management program history and development and the role of the safety professional. (4 SCH, 4 lecture, 0 lab)

Prerequisite: None.

OSHT 1405 OSHA Regulations - Construction Industry. CIP 1507010011

A study of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations pertinent to the construction industry. This course is designed to review the codes in some detail and to prepare students for the CSST exams. (4 SCH, 4 lecture, 0 lab)

Prerequisite: OSHT 1401 and OSHT 2309 or approval of the division chair. It is recommended that courses not be taken concurrently.

OSHT 2309 Safety Program Management. CIP 1507010011

Examines the major safety management issues that effect the workplace including safety awareness, loss control, regulatory issues, and human behavior modification. This course is designed to review the codes in some detail and to prepare students for the CSST exams.

(3 SCH, 3 lecture, 0 lab)

Prerequisite: OSHT 1401 or approval of the division chair. It is recommended that OSHT 2309 and OSHT 1405 not be taken concurrently.

OSHT 2380 Cooperative Education III - Occupational Safety and Health Technician. CIP 1507010011

Career related activities encountered in the student’s area of specialization offered through an individualized agreement among the college, employer, and student. Under supervision of the college and the employer, the student combines classroom learning with work experience. Includes a lecture component. The student must be employed and work 320+ hours during the term. OSHT 1381 and OSHT 2380 may not be taken simultaneously. (3 SCH, 1 lecture, 20 lab)

Prerequisite: OSHT 1381, concurrent registration in additional credit course and approval of the division chair.
