WLDG 1327 Welding Codes. CIP 4805080002

An in-depth study of welding codes and their development in accordance with structural standards, welding processes, destructive and non-destructive test methods. (3 SCH, 3 lecture, 0 lab)

Prerequisite: WLDG 2373 or approval of the division chair.

WLDG 1337 Introduction to Welding Metallurgy. CIP 4805080002

A study of ferrous and nonferrous metals from the ore to the finished product. Emphasis on metal alloys, heat treating, hard surfacing, welding techniques, forging, foundry processes, and mechanical properties of metal including hardness, machinability, and ductility. (3 SCH, 2 lecture, 2 lab)

Prerequisite: None.

WLDG 1371 Inspection and Testing. CIP 4805080002

An introductory study of inspection and testing techniques used in industry. The basic introduction to ultrasonic, radiography, eddy current, penetrant, and magnetic particle techniques. American Society for Non-Destructive Testing and American Welding Society Certifications will be studied. Also included will be inspection techniques and basic measuring techniques. (3 SCH, 2 lecture, 2 lab)

Prerequisite: None. 

WLDG 1380 Cooperative Education I - Welding Technology. CIP 4805080002

Career related activities encountered in the student’s area of specialization are offered through an individualized agreement among the college, employer, and student. Under supervision of the college and the employer, the student combines classroom learning with work experience. Includes a lecture component. (3 SCH, 1 lecture, 20 lab)

Prerequisite: Approval of the division chair.

WLDG 1381 Cooperative Education II - Welding Technology. CIP 4805080002

Career related activities encountered in the student’s area of specialization are offered through an individualized agreement among the college, employer, and student. Under supervision of the college and the employer, the student combines classroom learning with work experience. Includes a lecture component. (3 SCH, 1 lecture, 20 lab)

Prerequisite: WLDG 1380 and approval of the division chair. 

WLDG 1428 Introduction to Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). CIP 4805080002

An introduction to shielded metal arc welding process. Emphasis placed on power sources, electrode selection, oxy-fuel cutting, and various joint designs. Instruction provided in SMAW fillet welds in various positions. (4 SCH, 2 lecture, 8 lab)

Prerequisite: None. 

WLDG 2381 Cooperative Education III - Welding Technology. CIP 4805080002

Career related activities encountered in the student’s area of specialization are offered through an individualized agreement among the college, employer, and student. Under supervision of the college and the employer, the student combines classroom learning with work experience. Includes a lecture component. (3 SCH, 1 lecture, 20 lab)

Prerequisite: WLDG 1381 and approval of the division chair. 

WLDG 2406 Intermediate Pipe Welding. CIP 4805080002

A comprehensive course on the welding of pipe using the shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) process. Position of welds will be 1G, 2G, 5G, and 6G using various electrodes. Topics covered include electrode selection, equipment setup, and safe shop practices. (4 SCH, 2 lecture, 8 lab)

Prerequisite: WLDG 2443 or approval of the division chair. 

WLDG 2443 Advanced Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). CIP 4805080002

Advanced topics based on accepted welding codes. Training provided with various electrodes in shielded metal arc welding processes with open V-groove joints in all positions. (4 SCH, 2 lecture, 8 lab)

Prerequisite: WLDG 1428 or approval of the division chair.

WLDG 2447 Advanced Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW). CIP 4805080002

Advanced topics in GMAW welding, including welding in various positions and directions. (4 SCH, 2 lecture, 8 lab)

Prerequisite: WLDG  

WLDG 2451 Advanced Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW). CIP 4805080002

Advanced topics in GTAW welding, including welding in various positions and directions. (4 SCH, 2 lecture, 8 lab)

Prerequisite: WLDG 2406 or approval of the division chair.

WLDG 2513 Intermediate Welding Using Multiple Processes. CIP 4805080002

Instruction using layout tools and blueprint reading with demonstration and guided practices with some of the following welding processes: oxy-fuel gas cutting and welding, shield metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), or any other approved welding process. (5 SCH, 3 lecture, 6 lab)

Prerequisite: WLDG 2451 or approval of the division chair.
