BC Mystery History Club - BCMHC

Welcome to the Mystery History Club!!

 This is the official site of Brazosport College's Mystery History Club! This club is for all students enrolled in Brazosport College courses. The club attempts to solve historical mysteries using a variety of techniques.

  We are going to or have attended the following investigations and all members are welcome:

1.Ammon-Underwood House: November 1, 2008

3. (On Hold) Old Angleton Courthouse: Rescheduled for fALL, 2009. Details will be discussed at the next meeting. The next meeting should be after Spring Break. Watch for details. We will be helping with the archieve and investigating, too. 

Directions: From Lake Jackson take Highway 288 North to Angleton. Exit Angleton and Hightway 35. Turn right off 288 and continue until Main Street. Turn left. The Old Angleton Courthouse will be on the right, on 100 East Cedar Street. You can take the Old 288 (288B) as well, and just continued through Angelton until you see the Museum on the right.

From West Columbia: Follow Highway 35 into Angleton and turn left on Main. The Old Courthouse is on the right past the businesses,  on 100 East Cedar.

2. Eagle Lake Train Depot Investigation:  January 24 at 10:30am. 

The Mystery Club does it again! Using archaeological methods, we uncovered a number of artifacts from the Train Depot's past. Thanks to stationmaster Ken Stavinhoa for his tour, warm hospitality, and help! We have been invited back to do a full-scale investigation. Anyone interested?

 4. Varner-Hogg Plantation in the late Fall of 2009! Watch for details.

 5. USS Cavalla: Is still shut down. To be annonced.

Want to join a college sponsored club but do not know which one?

 Don’t want to pay membership dues?

 Wish you had not joined the club which meets every two weeks?  Want to add some mystery into your life?

If you enjoy mysteries and history, then this is the club for you!!!

Details about the club:

This club is open to any student who is attending classes on or off campus at Brazosport College.  You can join one of the three off campus branches at Sweeny High School, Columbia High School, or Brazosport High School, as well. 

Meetings are called by the president and faculty sponsor

There are no membership dues and  you need to make only one meeting a semester, unless you are an officer

You can bring to the club’s attention a mystery to investigate

The amount of work you want to put into the club is up to you

Help the club with a contribution to one of our famous Bake Sales, where we earn money for club shirts and equipment.

 Current Investigations:

 We are investigating the Old Angleton Courthouse, Eagle Lake Train Depot,  and Vernar-Hogg Plantation, as well as reports that a submarine surfaced in the Brazos River during World War II!

Brazosport College Chapter:

The next investigation will be at the Brazoria County Historical Museum in Angleton. Date and time to be announced.

  Ammon-Underwood House has invited us back for a full scale investigation. So too has the Eagle Lake Train Depot! It seems our curiosity, enthusiasm, and professionalism are paying off!

We are still taking orders for tee shirts and caps. We need 7 people for the discount. Please contact Dr. Petrovich!

Sweeny Chapter:

 The Sweeny Chapter will join all branches in discovering the mystery Old Angleton Courthouse! Date and time to be announced.

Columbia Chapter:

 Columbia will be joining forces with the Brazosport College Main Branch of the MHC and the Sweeny Branch of the MHC to explore some of the mysteries the Old Angleton Courthouse. Date and time to be announced.
