Career Assessments

Getting to Know Yourself

 Choosing a Career

Many people think that there is a test out there that will tell them what is the best career for them. Unfortunately, that is just not true. What is available are different types of assessments that can help you get to know yourself better and help you explore careers that might be a good fit for you. If you are undecided about your major or a career path, taking an assessment or participating in a career decision making workshop can be a great way to begin the decision making process.

eDiscover

Discover is an online Career Assessment tool. Take the three inventories: Interests, Abilities, and Values. Then see what your Inventories Summary is. Explore familiar careers and check out some new ones. After you've completed eDiscover you can discuss your results with a counselor. Discover can also be used to research occupations. You can find out salary information, training required, and what qualities are useful in different occupations.

You will need a username to access eDiscover. Usernames are available on campus in E-110 or by email: sara.garska@brazosport.edu

States Career Clusters

The Career Clusters Interest Survey is a career guidance tool that allows individuals to respond to questions and identify the top three Career Clusters of interest based on their responses. This pencil/paper survey takes about fifteen minutes to complete  The survey can be printed out -- it is not electronic. The great thing about using the Career Clusters is that it efficiently and effectively helps you narrow your search.

Do What You Are

This is a quick personality-based quiz. It serves as an introduction to personality-based assessment. The Career Center has career reports available based on your four-letter code. If your results leave you wanting to know more, see Sara Garska (E-114) for more information.

Think Big!

Perfect Ten is an interactive and fun workshop that allows students to identify and name their skills, values, and interests. The workshop goes a step further by using small groups to create an experience where students leave with a list of potential next-step jobs, careers, and dream jobs. This workshop is provided each semester to students enrolled in Learning Frameworks, PSYC 1300.
