THE OFFICIAL GED TEST PROGRAM
The General Educational Development tests (GED Test) can give you the opportunity to earn a high school equivalency diploma… a credential recognized as a key to employment opportunities, advancement, further education, and financial rewards. This brochure answers many of the questions you may have about the GED test.
The intent of the GED program is to serve the serious needs of those students who have withdrawn from a regular high school program (either public or homeschool). In no way does the GED program intend to disrupt or encourage disruption within the regular high school program.
SPECIAL ACCOMMODATION
Special editions (i.e., cassette tape, large print, Braille) of the GED test along with special accommodations for candidates with documented physical and/or learning disabilities are available. (Call the testing office at 230-3237 for more information.)
TEST ELIGIBILITY
1. A resident of Texas.
2. At least seventeen years old and not enrolled in school, provided they have a signed parent or guardian consent form and a letter of withdrawal from last school attended, or
3. Eighteen years old and not enrolled in school.
Persons are eligible for official GED certification when they achieve a passing score of 410 or higher on each of the five parts of the test AND have an average of 450 or higher (i.e., an overall standard score of 2250 or higher.).
OFFICIAL GED TEST FEES
A fee of $65.00 is charged for the battery of five tests. The re-test fees are $13.00 per test battery. (NOTE: FEES MUST BE PAID AT THE INITIAL TIME OF REGISTRATION AND IN PERSON ONLY.)
REGISTRATION NOTICE
Expect to be 20 to 25 minutes at Brazosport College registering for the GED test. Pre-registration is REQUIRED and MUST be completed at least one week prior to test date on our campus, at the latest the deadline for registering for GED is Tuesdays, the day before actual test date by 11:00 a.m..
WHAT TO BRING WHEN REGISTERING
At the time of the official GED test registration, the following required documents must be submitted.
1. Valid Government issued identification with photograph (Drivers License or Department of Public Safety Identification card, Military ID or passport) along with Social Security;
2. Testing fee ($65);
3. Sixteen year olds must bring a court order, and/or a Boot Camp letter (if in Boot Camp);
4. Seventeen year olds must have a signed parent or guardian consent form and a high school withdrawal form
OFFICIAL GED TEST DAY
GED tests are administered on most Wednesdays at Brazosport College. Examinees must report for tests at appropriate
CHECK-IN TIME (see Check-in/Instruction times below.) No one is admitted to the testing room after testing has begun. (Please call testing office at 230-3647 or 230- 3040 to confirm testing dates)

REMINDER: NO ONE WILL BE PERMITTED IN THE TESTING ROOM AFTER TESTING HAS BEGUN SO BE SURE TO BE ON TIME.
OFFICIAL GED RE-TEST POLICY
Persons not meeting the eligibility for GED certification must do one of the following:
1. Wait 6 months and re-test only those tests not passed
2. *Enroll in a GED Preparation program
3. Obtain a Retest Letter from the teacher of the GED Preparation program or a private tutor. The teacher or private tutor must be certified by the State of Texas.

INTERPRETATION OF TEST RESULT
Students will receive written notification from the Texas Education Agency, GED Unit office within approximately 4 – 6 weeks from test date. Further interpretation is available by calling or coming by the Counseling and Testing office.
OFFICIAL GED TEST DESCRIPTION
The GED battery which is offered in both English and Spanish (NOTE: Spanish GED is scheduled upon request), consists of five separate tests which cover the five main areas of high school study.
The tests are as follows:

Part 1 (Multiple Choice) 50 items; 75 minutes

GED PREPARATION COURSE
Brazosport College offers a course for those who need help in preparing to take the GED test or to improve basic skills in reading, writing, and math. The course is free to Texas residents and is offered in Angleton, Freeport, Lake Jackson, and West Columbia.
