If you want to be a part of a thriving global industry, take a look at chemical technology. In Brazoria County, there are 18 petrochemical companies that employ over 14,000 individuals, making it the largest industry in our county. Process technicians are a central part of these petrochemical facilities.
Process technology involves every aspect of chemical processing. You will be extracting and refining raw materials (such as oil, natural gas, beverage ingredients and water). You will also separate or mix these elements, carefully monitoring the process that makes it happen. As a technician, you will be a key member of the team responsible for planning, analyzing and controlling production.
Brazosport College offers you very practical, real-world training using pilot plants similar to the type of unit operations found in local area chemical plants. There are also opportunities to work for chemical companies, allowing students to earn an income while earning a degree part-time, and many companies will pay for your books and tuition.
Brazosport College offers a certificate, two-year associate degree and four-year bachelor's degree in chemical technology. Many employers now require an associate degree for entry-level positions. The bachelor’s degree is a great option if you want to advance in the field. Brazosport College also has great success in job placement of its graduates.
