If you are interested in education, then you've come to the right place. Brazosport College has programs for all grade levels; birth-prek, prek-4th grade, 4th-8th grade, 8th-12th grade.
The Early Childhood Development & Education (ECD&E) program offers a variety of courses and degrees to meet the diverse goals of current child development and education majors; such as university transfer courses, associate degrees, certificate programs, and the CDA training program.
The ECD&E curriculum offers the academic background and practical work experience necessary to enter the workforce and provide high-quality care, guidance and education in child care centers, public schools, and in other related settings working with children.
Courses are designed to represent basic child development principles that will aid students in developmentally appropriate practices, curriculum development, building family and community relationships, center management, and professional practices.
Associate of Arts in Teaching
This degree has three options: 1) EC-4 Early Childhood Specialization, 2) EC-4, 4-8 & EC-12, or 3) 8-12 & other EC-12. This degree requires the completion of 63 credit hours; including the BC core curriculum and then specified early childhood, education or content area courses designated by the AAT option. This degree is transferable to universities with teaching programs. THEA or COMPASS testing is required.
This degree has two specialization options: 1) Early Childhood Instructional Specialty, or 2) Administrative Specialty. This degree requires the completion of 65 or 66 credit hours with approximately 2/3 of the curriculum directly related to the early childhood field including child development principles, management issues, and practical application of material, with the remaining courses in general studies. THEA or COMPASS testing is required.
Certificate Options
Brazosport College offers two certificate options: 1) Early Childhood Development Certificate —15 credits and 2) Early Childhood Development Director’s Certificate—24 credits. THEA requirements are not applicable.
CDA Training Option
We offer three CDA courses that will aid you in obtaining a CDA certificate through the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition. THEA requirements are not applicable.
