The Bill & Julia May Children’s Center

The Children’s Community

   Monday - Friday
7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
for ages 6 weeks to 5 years

Full time care is offered in the following groups:

Infant Community -
children ages 6 weeks up to 17 months, are given a chance to explore using their senses and to develop in a secure & nurturing environment, which utilizes developmentally appropriate practice guidelines

Toddler Community  -
children ages 18 months to 24 months, are encouraged, through developmentally appropriate practices, to continue their developmental growth as they transition from dependency into independent beings

2-Year Old Community -
a developmentally appropriate classroom for two-year olds that offers learning experiences through exploration, which furthers their social-emotional, physical, language and cognitive development

3 & 4-Year Old Community -a developmentally appropriate classroom for 3’s & 4’s, which uses many stimulating and age appropriate activities to continue a child’s development and help prepare them for a successful school experience
 

Exploratorium

   Monday - Friday

      7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Part time, scheduled care is available for those individuals looking for child care while taking classes or as a chance for their child(ren) to interact with others and explore and learn through interesting activities.  Children enrolled in this program must be between the ages of 3 and 5 years.  This room will be made up of children of varying ages interacting through various activities.  The Exploratorium encompasses an art and water room; and computer kiosk, as well as other center activities.  Children will be allowed to choose the area where they wish to spend time, and the teachers will assist them with their learning activities and provide guidance to those children who may need to be re-directed to more appropriate activities.

Mission

The mission of the Bill & Julia May Children’s Center is to meet the needs of the BC student body along with those of faculty and staff; and to raise the quality of childcare in the community by:

       providing a nurturing, caring and developmentally-appropriate educational setting for children in the center;

       serving as a model for excellence in training childcare professionals through a creative and interactive training program;

       informing and empowering families and the community on how to support children’s cognitive, language, social, emotional and physical development while providing a safe and healthy environment; and

       demonstrating the advantages of promoting inclusion of children with special needs.

 Standards

The National Association for the Education of the Young Child (NAEYC) is an entity which holds standards higher than normal state requirements. The Bill & Julia May Children’s Center will adhere to NAEYC standards as well as the requirements of the  State of Texas.

The Bill & Julia May Children’s Center is accredited by NAEYC.

Enrollment Priority

The Bill & Julia May Children’s Center was organized to meet the childcare needs of students, according to the following priority procedures:

1)     BC students have first priority to available childcare spaces on a first come-first served basis, or if no spaces are available at the time, they will be placed on the student waiting list.

2)     BC employees have second priority to available childcare spaces on a first come-first served basis, or if no spaces are available at the time, they will be placed on the employee waiting list.

3)     If the facility has any spaces available after that, the enrollment will be open to the community or if no spaces are available, they may be placed on the community waiting list.
