BC Jazz Band, Jazz Singers to present concert Feb. 25

The Brazosport College Jazz Band and Jazz Singers will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 25 at The Clarion at Brazosport College. The concert is free and the public is cordially invited.

Selections to be performed include the following from the BC Jazz Band:

"
Second Line/Little Liza Jane" – A medley of two traditional New Orleans jazz songs.

"
Ready Freddie" – A medium up-tempo minor blues by Mike Kamuf that pays homage to hard bop greats like trumpeter Freddie Hubbard.

"Groove Merchant" – A classic shuffle by saxophonist Jerome Richardson from the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Big Band.

"Summer Never Ends" – A gorgeous contemporary ballad by L.A. composer Bill Liston that features BC Jazz Band lead trombonist Jared Caraway.

"Moanin’" – Pianist Bobby Timmons’ jazz standard made famous by Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers.

"Chameleon" – The infectious funk classic by Herbie Hancock.

"La Negra Tiene Tumbao" – Celia Cruz’s Grammy award-winning salsa hit.

Selections from the Jazz Singers will include:

"Undecided" – Charlie Shavers’ standard originally composed for Ella Fitzgerald.

"It Had to Be You" – Tony Ramirez will be featured as vocal soloist with the BC Jazz Band on this standard based on Harry Connick Jr.’s version originally recorded for the soundtrack of the film When Harry Met Sally.

"One For My Baby (And One More for the Road)" - Matt Siebert will be featured as vocal soloist on this popular song made famous by Frank Sinatra.

"Swingle Song" – An a capella showcase written in the style of The Swingle Singers by New York Voices member Darmon Meader.
