BC Kids Kollege Kicks Into High Gear

As the pace of our world picks up, it’s never too soon to think about college, even for kids who have just started school. For students entering first through sixth grade, the college they should consider this summer is Kids Kollege, offered through Community Education at Brazosport College. Fun, week-long programs are scheduled from July 18-29 in the gymnasium on campus.

Sportsmania, Zumba, Tai Kwon Do and Archery are great choices for the kids who want to burn off some summer energy without fighting the heat and mosquitoes outside. Super Science, Rockin Rockets, Build it Yourself and Take it Apart will appeal to the mechanically inclined and scientist-in-the-making. Art Exploration, BEADazzle and Paper Trail might be just the ticket for the kids with a creative flair.

“When the summer starts getting really hot in July and boredom starts setting in, Kids Kollege is a great way to keep kids moving and having fun. They might even learn something new along the way, too,” said Gemi Powell, Brazosport College Youth Program Coordinator. “Our goal for the kids this summer is to discover, create, play and learn, and I think we’ve got a great selection of classes to make sure every kid has the opportunity to do just that.”

Each class meets Monday through Friday for 50 minutes. Participants may register for up to four choices. Classes are available for students entering first through third grade during the week of July 18-22 in time slots from 8 a.m. until noon. Students entering fourth through sixth grade attend classes July 25-29 from 8 a.m. until noon. The cost is $30 per class per participant. All students meet each day in the gymnasium to be escorted by their instructors to their class locations on campus.

Registration is currently open and availability is limited. Students may register through the Brazosport College Web site at www.brazosport.edu/ce  or in person at the Community Education Center, located at 120 Circle Way in Lake Jackson, and the main campus registrar. More information and a Community Education catalogue are available by calling 979-230-3600.
