The Brazosport College Jazz Band and Jazz Singers will present its Fall Jazz Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 14 at The Clarion at Brazosport College. The concert is free and the public is cordially invited.
Selections to be performed include the following:
My Little Suede Shoes – A relaxed bossa nova by master saxophonist Charlie Parker.
The Defibrillator – A hard-driving shuffle by Shenandoah University music professor Adrien Re.
Blues in the Closet – An up-tempo swing chart by jazz bassist Oscar Pettiford.
Harlem Nocturne – A big band classic reworked by Mike Tomaro into a smoldering contemporary ballad.
I Let a Songo Out of My Heart – An infectious salsa tune written by Philadelphia-based drummer Lars Halle.
Pure & Simple – A funk explosion by Jeff Jarvism, Director of Jazz Studies at Cal State Long Beach.
Straighten Up and Fly Right – The BC Jazz Singers will be featured on this Nat King Cole hit that spent 10 weeks as the No. 1 hit on the Harlem Hit Parade in 1944.
