The Brazosport College Department of Music will host an afternoon concert by the College and Community Wind Ensemble at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 17. The performance, which will be under the direction of Richard Birk, will be at 2:30 p.m. at The Clarion at Brazosport College.
The concert will be offered at no cost to the public.
“Our program will include a wide variety of music, ranging from ragtime and circus marches to new pieces for band and a Broadway classic,” Birk said. “There should be something for everyone. I hope the community will come join us for a wonderful afternoon of music.”

Selections scheduled to be performed on April 17 include:
Esplanade by Elliot Del Borgo – a fiery rhythmic original for band.
Prelude No. 2 by George Gershwin – a Gershwin classic transcribed from his Preludes for Piano.
Confluence (Allegheny Lament and Dance of the Monongahela) by Richard L. Saucedo – a musical depiction of the merging point of the Monongahela and Allegheny Rivers. This confluence is the beginning of the Ohio River and occurs in Pittsburgh, PA.
Rejoicing in Hope by George St. George – a rousing original march by wind ensemble member George St. George.
The Lords of Greenwich by Robert Sheldon – a 2010 composition written in the style of an authentic British folk tune inspired by the music of Gustav Holst and Ralph Vaughan Williams.
The Entertainer by Scott Joplin – perhaps the most famous ragtime piece of all time.
Give My Regards to Broadway by George M. Cohan – from the 1904 musical Little Johnny Jones and made famous by James Cagney in the 1942 film "Yankee Doodle Dandy."
Cincinnatus by H.A. VanderCook – a brisk circus march composed in the late 1890’s during VanderCook’s tenure as the Bandmaster of the J.H. LaPearl Circus.
