LAKE JACKSON – Last night as the House Appropriations Committee voted to restore state formula fund HB 1, Brazosport College and three other community colleges were able to breathe a sigh of relief. Brazosport College and all other community colleges in the state will still face significant budgeting challenges in HB 1 as the institutions try to serve more students with fewer resources.

“We are pleased and appreciate Representative Dennis Bonnen’s advocacy and effective leadership that helped restore the funding,” said Dr. Millicent Valek, President of Brazosport College. “We are also grateful to our community and business partners who advocated so well on our behalf,” she said.

“We want to assure our community to count on us. We are here to educate and train students for industry and prepare them for their future,” said Valek.
