Transfer Fair to bring various colleges and universities to Brazosport College for unique, one-day event

 Billy Loveless, 10/27/2011

Many of the state’s top colleges will be visiting Brazosport College with one goal in mind: to answer questions and meet the needs of students.

Parents, students, teachers and counselors from all area school districts, as well as local private and charter schools, are invited to meet with representatives from a number of colleges and universities, including BC, at Brazosport College’s 16th annual Transfer Fair and College Information Night on Wednesday, Nov. 30.

The event will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the college’s new Student Pavilion area. Brazosport College is located at 500 College Drive in Lake Jackson.

Higher education institutions represented at the Transfer Fair include University of Texas, Texas A&M, University of Houston, Sam Houston State, Texas State and University of North Texas, among others.

College officials also will be present during a day session that runs 9 to 11:30 a.m. for current BC students.

Among the types of questions that can be answered on the spot include costs, financial aid, scholarships, academic programs and entrance requirements. Information on admissions and transfers will also be available.

“This event can be a valuable asset to high school students seeking to further their educational opportunities,” BC counselor Phil Robertson said. “This is a rare opportunity to have a one-on-one question and answer session with representatives from some of the state’s top universities.

“Even more advantageous, they are coming here,” Robertson added. “It’s not often one can meet a university representative in person without traveling to them. This is a fantastic opportunity that high school students should take advantage of.”

The Transfer Fair and College Information Night is carefully planned to be a valuable educational goal-planning resource for area high school communities. The event is an effective, convenient and cost-efficient method to help parents as they develop strategies for their child’s higher education.

BC Transfer Fair and College Information Night is a collaborative effort between BC and the independent school districts of Angleton (AISD), Brazosport (BISD), and Columbia/Brazoria (C/BISD), and is held in the Student Pavilion area, located on the first floor of the college, next to the library. It is accessible from the main entrance. Ample parking is available in the student lot at this entrance.
