Gulf Coast Student Success Conference (GCSSC)

The Gulf Coast Student Success Conference supports the intellectual and professional development of peer and professional tutors, student mentors, and SI Leaders in the Gulf Coast region.  We believe that tutors, student mentors, and SI Leaders are intellectual professionals who have valuable perspectives to offer one another, their institutions, and their fields of study.  Through the GCSSC, tutors, student mentors, and SI Leaders, as well as their administrators, can gather annually to present their original work, facilitate workshops for their colleagues at various Gulf Coast institutions, and learn from one another.  By collaborating with the student success professionals in our region, we hope to build the foundation for an ongoing conversation between our institutions and the tutors, student mentors, and SI Leaders who support instruction at these institutions.

Goals:

  1. The GCSSC supports the professional development of tutors, mentors, and SI Leaders in the Gulf Coast by providing an annual forum where they can gather to share their research, difficulties, and successes;

  1. The GCSSC welcomes faculty, directors, coordinators, and administrators to attend and present with their tutors, mentors, and SI Leaders; however, they should act as Chairs, Moderators, or Co-Presenters;

  1. The GCSSC aims for 80% of presenters to be peer or professional tutors, mentors, and/or SI Leaders;

  1. In order to showcase the scholarship and advances of Writing Centers in the Gulf Coast (and beyond), the GCSSC aims for 50% of presentations to deal with issues relating to Writing Centers and/or Writing Across the Curriculum;

  1. The GCSSC welcomes proposals from across and beyond the Gulf Coast region, but preference will be given to proposals originating from Community Colleges.
