Blue Water Highway

Local favorite Blue Water Highway Band is returning to The Clarion at Brazosport College in Lake Jackson for a 7:30 p.m. performance on August 5.

Blue Water Highway was started by two friends from Brazoswood High School — Zack Kibodeaux (lead vocals/guitar) and Greg Essington (vocals/guitar). Years later, Kibodeaux turned to Catherine Clarke (vocals/keyboard) to complete the three-part harmonies the band would soon be known for, followed by the addition of Kyle Smith (bass).

They take their name from the roadway that links their hometown of Lake Jackson to Galveston, where the cops, teachers, baristas, and chemical plant workers travel to work hard, play hard, blow off steam and dance to their favorite bands. Blue Water Highway’s music is the soundtrack for their lives.

Together since 2013, the band has released three studio-recorded albums, including their 2013 debut, “Things We Carry,” the 2018 follow-up, “Heartbreak City” and, most recently, 2021’s “Paper Airplanes.”

The members of Blue Water Highway take their inspiration from traditional and modern country, but also from classic rock bands like Eagles, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. At the same time, Kibodeaux and Clarke both boast opera degrees. As a result, these influences meld together to create a unique sound that keeps locals demanding return performances.

Tickets for the show are $27.50 for the main floor and mezzanine to $75 for VIP tickets.
