College & Community Band to host free concert on Sunday, March 5
The Brazosport College Department of Music will present a concert featuring the Brazosport College and Community Band on Sunday, March 5 at The Clarion at Brazosport College in Lake Jackson. The concert, which begins at 2:30 p.m., is free and the public is cordially invited.
Selections to be performed by the College and Community Band include:
“A Walk in the Morning Sun” — Light and breezy, this tuneful piece perfectly opens the performance with melodic lines and bouncy accompaniments.
“Continuum” — Using a two-measure loop, this Robert Buckley piece is uniquely constructed around musical building blocks that are constantly evolving and transforming.
“Bourree” — This elegant bouree by Johann Philipp Krieger, and arranged by Carl Strommen, is an excellent example of the Baroque style of music.
“Roll Off” — An original march by community band member George St. George. He composed this more than 40 years ago but has reworked it for this performance.
“El Relicario” — One of the most famous and best-loved paso dobles ever written, this piece, arranged by Robert Longfield, features fiery rhythms and sweeping Spanish melodies.
“Cedar Canyon Sketches” — Let your ears take you on a journey through the Texas Hill Country. You’ll hear the tranquil sounds of nighttime, a bumpy ride across the plains and the grandeur of a picturesque sunset.
“Cincinnatus” — Originally written in the 1890s, this stylish circus march is still a masterpiece more than 100 years later.
“Curtain Call” — Sparkling and vibrant, this flag-waving tune is a tribute to all great finales and encores.
“Precious Lord, Lead Me Home” — This requiem for a fallen comrade is a celebration of life, performed in memory of all music educators who have changed the lives of student musicians.
