Lorrie Morgan

The Clarion at Brazosport College is proud to welcome Grand Ole Opry member and platinum-recording artist Lorrie Morgan for a concert on Friday, Jan. 27.

The show, sponsored by STP Nuclear Operating Company, begins at 7:30 p.m.

The daughter of Country Music Hall of Fame member George Morgan, Lorrie Morgan made her debut on the Grand Ole Opry stage at age 13 and was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry at just 24 years old. She married fellow country singer Keith Whitley in 1986 and was signed to RCA Records in 1987, with an onslaught of hits following soon after.

Whitley's tragic death of an alcohol overdose in 1989 left her a widowed, working mother. Their duet “Til a Tear Becomes a Rose” earned her a 1990 CMA award. Morgan’s first three albums, “Leave the Light On” (1989), “Something in Red” (1991) and “Watch Me” (1992), all earned Platinum status. Her “Greatest Hits” collection (1999) also went Platinum, while “War Paint” (1994), “Greater Need” (1996) and “Shakin' Things Up” (1997) were certified Gold. Country fans voted Morgan their TNN/Music City News Female Vocalist of the Year in 1994, 1996, 1997 and 1998.

Through the years, Morgan has recorded in collaboration with her father, as well as Whitley, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis, Tammy Wynette, The Beach Boys, Dolly Parton, Andy Williams, the New York Philharmonic and Pam Tillis.

Morgan is a peerless song interpreter, drawing from a deep personal well that spans enormous tenderness to cheeky chutzpah. Whether covering a classic or sharing one of her own songs, Morgan is truly a song stylist in the grandest tradition.

Tickets for Morgan’s Jan. 27 show at the Clarion are $50 for adults, $45 for seniors and Brazosport College employees and $20 for students and children.

Other upcoming shows in the Clarion’s 2022-23 performance season include Vision Duo (Feb. 6, 2023), Tony Jackson (Feb. 17, 2023), Lonestar (March 24, 2023), Rising Tide: The Crossroads Project (March 27, 2023) and Gina Chavez (May 19, 2023).
