Brazosport College & Community Band set for two performances

Tue Apr 26, 2022

The Brazosport College and Community Band is scheduled for two performances in upcoming weeks.

On Saturday, April 30, the College and Community Band will be helping the Pearland Community Band celebrate its 25th Anniversary by performing at the Pearland Concert Band Festival.

BC’s group will kick off the festivities at 10 a.m. and be followed by bands from Missouri City, Alvin, Cypress, Houston and Pearland. The Concert Band Festival will be held at Pearland Town Center Pavilion, 11200 Broadway St. in Pearland.

Two days later, on Monday, May 2, the College & Community Band will perform their Spring Concert at The Clarion at Brazosport College. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Admission to both events is free. Selections to be performed at both concerts include:

“Brighton Beach” — A British concert march by William P. Latham.

“Celtic Voyage” — Inspired by the history of the Irish immigrants, this Celtic-flavored piece by Melanie Donahue expresses the feelings experienced in their trek to the new world.

“The Legend of Zorro” — Musical selections by James Horner from the soundtrack of the 2005 movie.

“Cumberland Cross” — Carl Strommen’s American folk-style original, which includes a beautiful chorale reminiscent of Shenandoah,” followed by a lively dance

“Beyond Reach” — An exciting new work for concert band by Adrian B. Sims.

“Trombone King”  One of Karl King’s most famous marches, featuring, you guessed it, the trombones.
