A Message from Dr. Millicent Valek, President of Brazosport College

Greetings Brazosport College Community,

We are all reeling with these unprecedented times as we finish the spring semester and begin the summer terms. From a global pandemic to national unrest over the senseless killing of George Floyd to the start of the hurricane season with a tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico. Many of us feel overwhelmed right now as we deal with the raw emotions of sadness, anger, and the acknowledgements of man’s inhumanity to man. There is no right way to mourn the times or reflect on where we find ourselves. It is a time to support one another, to offer kind words, to listen, and to reaffirm our core values as a college community.

Caring for people is one of our five Core Values, which we, as a college community, expressed when we wrote “Recognizing that education is a human endeavor, we create a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment in which we recruit and retain excellent people, encouraging all to pursue excellence.” As a BC family, we can do our part to unify, heal and stand together as a model of hope for each other and for generations to come.

Brazosport College remains committed to its student success agenda and to the championship of equity in student outcomes. As an Achieving the Dream Leader College, we are proactively dismantling the barriers to student access and leading forward with strategies to help all students achieve social and economic mobility.
