BC Art Gallery to feature the talents of Richelle Sanders
The Brazosport College Art Gallery is pleased to highlight the talents of Richelle Sanders in the gallery’s newest show, “The Garden of Adonis.”
The show opens Sept. 6 and will run through mid-October.
“The Garden of Adonis” is a solo exhibition that features a variety of small relief works. Sanders’ paintings and sculptures use gel relief and acrylics to add texture to the surfaces, creating faux patinas. The paintings reflect subjects that relate back to the artist’s experiences with Black culture, feminism/womanism and historical narratives that relate to subjects of modern society.
Born in 1991 in Atlanta, GA, Sanders received a Master of Arts from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA., followed by a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Shorter University in Rome, GA.
She has exhibited her work in solo and group exhibitions around Georgia, such as the “Cummings Arts Festival,” “Define Art” at Savannah College of Art and Design, and “Annual Salon” with the Alexander Collective. She has worked in gallery institutions such as Non-Fiction Gallery and Haza Gallery.
Her practice consists of paintings, drawings, printmaking and sculptural works. Currently, Sanders is living and working in Savannah, GA.
The Brazosport College Art Gallery is in Room B.126 on the Brazosport College Main Campus. To learn more about “The Garden of Adonis” or the Brazosport College Department of Art, e-mail jackson.zorn@brazosport.edu.
