BC Jazz Band, Singers to perform Oct. 22 at the Clarion

The Brazosport College Department of Music will present a free jazz concert featuring the BC Jazz Band & Jazz Singers on Friday, October 22 at The Clarion at Brazosport College.

The jazz band and jazz singers will be under the direction of Ben May, while the jazz band will be directed by Richard Birk. John Calderon will be assistant director for both groups.

Selections to be performed by the BC Jazz Band include:

“All Blues” and “So What” — from Miles Davis’ all-time best-selling jazz album “Kind of Blue.”

 “Best Things” — a rocking original by the Lucky Chops Brass Band.

 "Cold Duck Time” — a funky jazz standard by saxophonist Eddie Harris.

 “In a Mellow Tone” — a big band classic from Duke Ellington.

 “Lee Way” — from the 2021 album “Mambo Boulevard” by Victor Rendón & Bronx Concexión.

 “Little Sunflower” — a fusion standard by trumpeter Freddie Hubbard.

 “Pink Panther” — an updated shuffle funk version of Henry Mancini’s hit movie theme.

 Selections to be performed by the BC Jazz Singers include:

 “As Long As I’m Singing” — features the Jazz Singers on this up-tempo hit from Bobby Darrin.

 “Almost There” — from Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” featuring vocalist Priscilla Mattos.

 “Superstition” — featuring vocalist Landon Beeson on Stevie Wonder’s mega-hit.

 “Them There Eyes” — by Ella Fitzgerald and the Count Basie Orchestra, featuring vocalist Bernadette Fernandez.
