The Brazosport College Law Enforcement Academy is currently accepting applications for enrollment in its spring 2022 Basic Peace Officer Certification daytime courses.

The Basic Peace Officer Certification course begins on January 6, 2022 at Brazosport College. Application packets for the Law Enforcement Academy are available at the Brazosport College Library and must be returned to Chris Mezzino, BC Law Enforcement Academy Coordinator, no later than November 15.

Prospective students must go through the application process before registering for the academy.

The Brazosport College Law Enforcement Academy is a comprehensive Basic Peace Officer Licensure Certificate Program designed to prepare the student for employment as a police officer in the state of Texas. The information covered will provide foundation knowledge necessary to be a successful peace officer in a citizen-responsive, community-based environment. Successful completion of the certificate will allow the candidate to sit for the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Basic Peace Officer licensing exam.

Successful applicants will participate in more than 800 hours of training in various subjects such as criminal law, firearms and arrest tactics, as well as emergency driving, traffic enforcement and criminal investigation.

Applicants must undergo a recruiting process, including a criminal history check and psychological evaluation. Upon successful completion of the training course, candidates will become eligible to sit for the state licensing exam. A passing score of 70 or above on the state licensing exam will make the candidate eligible for employment in the state of Texas as a police officer, deputy sheriff, constable and other law enforcement capacities.
