BC Summer Jazz Band to perform on July 2 at the Clarion

Wed Jun 23, 2021

The Brazosport College Summer Jazz Band will present its Summer Jazz Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 2 at The Clarion at Brazosport College.

The concert is free to the public. The jazz band will be under the direction of Brian Casey.

Selections scheduled to be performed include:

“Bemsha Swing” — the catchy Thelonious Monk classic, including some New Orleans “street beat.”

“Annapolis Sail” — a colorful contemporary swing tune by Daniel Jamieson from the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors Perspectives program.

“You Snooze, You Lose” — a fiery Latin chart by Victor Lopez.

“When I Close My Eyes” – Gordon Brisker’s beautiful flugelhorn piece featuring Justin Garcia.

“The Lick” – Steve Brown’s clever take on the viral YouTube video, “The Lick.”

“Absoludicrous” – The title says it all! As usual, Gordon Goodwin cracks everyone up with this witty funk composition.

“America the Beautiful” – Arranged by Bob Curnow, this was recorded on the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors’ “The Legacy of Stan Kenton.”

“Get Out and Stay Out!!” – Ian McDougall’s burnin’ blues tune featuring several talented soloists.

“Africa” – arranged masterfully from the 1980’s Toto hit for a full jazz band by John Berry.
