Brazosport College seeking pandemic-inspired art for upcoming show

Mon Nov 8, 2021

Brazosport College is sending an open call out to local artists to share their experiences from the current pandemic.

Through an upcoming exhibition in the BC Art Gallery, “Community Curated: Images from a Pandemic,” community members will have an opportunity to share their original artworks and creative writings that address the space of our individual (and collective) pandemic experiences.

When describing the pandemic, our common language speaks to “isolation,” “loss” and “anxiety,” but also to “rest,” “growth” and balance,” among other terms. How did we shift within our new reality, and what are the cultural by-products of that shift?

All mediums and literary genres are encouraged to submit. Mediums include, but are not limited to, painting, photography drawing, mixed media, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, poems, short stories, videos or music (under one minute).

Visual artwork can be for sale or marked “not for sale.” Artists will also have an opportunity to donate the proceeds of their artwork sale to the Brazosport College Foundation, which offers financial assistance to enhance educational opportunities at Brazosport College.

Artwork is currently being accepted through Dec. 10. The exhibition is scheduled to be displayed in the BC Art Gallery from Jan. 10 to Feb. 18, 2022.

All works will be accepted. Depending on quality of works or subject matter, some work may not be displayed in the gallery, but will be included in a supplemental online exhibition.
