ChampionX recently hosted a class from Brazosport College’s Safety, Health and Environmental Management (SHEM) program, allowing students to see what environmental issues chemical companies face to comply with air, water and waste regulations. Pictured are, front from left, ChampionX Senior Environmental Engineer Amy Cornforth, ChampionX Environmental Engineer Audrey Linico, students Jacob Glover and Danielle Jones; back row, BC faculty member Sam Chamberlain, students Anna Coale, Victoria Patterson, Annabelle Ritter, Jose Valdez and Kinney Mouton, and Champion X HSE Manager and event sponsor Andy Slater. ChampionX recently hosted a class from Brazosport College’s Safety, Health and Environmental Management (SHEM) program, allowing students to see and understand what environmental issues chemical companies face to comply with air, water and waste regulations.

The SHEM class, EPCT 1305 Environmental Regulations Overview, which is under the Physical Sciences and Process Technology division at Brazosport College, showed students first-hand how hazardous waste is managed, how scrubbers and other air pollution equipment reduce impact to the environment and how stormwater is treated in the plant prior to being discharged, while meeting all state and federal permits.

ChampionX’s environmental engineers also discussed the state’s air, water and waste permits with students and gave presentations on how ChampionX maintains compliance with these permits.

In another commitment to Brazosport College, ChampionX has hired interns from the SHEM program for the semester and is having them work on safety and environmental projects at the plant.

ChampionX is a member of Brazosport College’s SHEM Advisory Committee and HSE Manager Andy Slater is the company representative to the committee. Slater attended Brazosport College, where he took the prerequisites necessary to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Hygiene from University of Houston-Clear Lake.
