College & Community Band to perform on Nov. 7 at the Clarion

The Brazosport College Department of Music will host an afternoon concert performance by the College and Community Band at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7.

The performance will be offered at no cost to the public at The Clarion at Brazosport College.

Selections scheduled to be performed on Nov. 7 include:

“The American Stride” — stylish and tuneful, this is one of popular march composer H.A. VanderCook’s most well-known works.

“Fantasia on the Dargason” — a terrific arrangement of the finale from Holst’s “Second Suite in F.”  

“Softly Speaks the Night” — a lush and touching ballad with beautiful simplicity.  

“Dances of a Shimmering Spirit” — a jazzy flavor combined with a little sass, with a touch of glitz and glam, creates an expressive and uplifting musical number that everyone will enjoy.

“Triumphant” — the world premier performance of an original song written by community band member George St. George.

“Russian Sailor’s Dance” —  the original Russian ballet music from Gliere’s “The Red Poppy” in all its glory!

“Alkali Ike Rag” — music from a 1911 silent movie, complete with trombone smears, a horse whinny and lots of percussion.  

“Swingin’ on the Moon” — a medley of three great American standards, “Blue Moon,” “Moonlight Serenade” and “How High the Moon.”
