Registration ongoing for new semester of BC’s free Jumpstart program

Registration is currently ongoing for a new semester of Brazosport College’s popular Jumpstart program and openings are available for those seeking training in the pipefitting and electrical fields.

The Jumpstart program focuses on intensive, hands-on training that is designed to help one enter a high-demand, high-wage career in a short amount of time. For those who qualify, the program is free.

The pipefitting and electrical trade courses last nine weeks and begin Sept. 16. Classes are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday. Orientation for the pipefitting and electrical programs is from 8:30 to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15.

The BC Jumpstart program also offers training for office administration and is introducing a new medical coding and billing training course this coming semester, providing even more choices and increased opportunities for students. A phlebotomy class has also been added, but it will not start until the Spring 2022 semester.

The office administration class is 12 weeks and classes begin Aug. 30. The medical billing and coding class will be 10 weeks and starts Oct. 4. Once it is offered in January 2022, the phlebotomy course will run for 23 weeks.

Seats in these programs are limited. Being a grant-based program, certain criteria must be met in order to qualify for tuition assistance.

FALL 2021 JUMPSTART PROGRAM

JUMPSTART PIPEFITTING & ELECTRICAL CRAFT CLASSES
Starts: Thursday Sept. 16
Ends: Thursday Nov. 18
Times: Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Friday, 8:30 to 12 p.m.
Orientation: Wednesday, Sept. 15, 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

• Successful completers will receive nine college credits, an Occupational Skills Award from Brazosport College, a NCCER Level 1 Helper Certification, NCCER Blue Card-Core Certification, and a Basic Plus Certification.
• All course expenses (tuition, books, tools and lab materials) may be covered.
• Only 10 applicants will be selected for each craft class and only applicants that fully complete the application process and meet all eligibility requirements can attend orientation.
  
  

JUMPSTART OFFICE ADMINISTRATION CLASSES
Starts: Monday Aug. 30
Ends: Friday, Nov. 19
Times: Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Friday, 8:30 to 12 p.m.
Orientation: Thursday, Aug. 26, 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

• Successful completers will receive nine college credits, an Occupational Skills Award from Brazosport College, and MS Office Core certifications in Word and Excel.
• All course expenses (tuition, books, tools and lab materials) may be covered.
• Only 12 applicants will be selected for this Fall program and only applicants that fully complete the application process and meet all eligibility requirements can attend orientation.
  
  

JUMPSTART MEDICAL BILLING & CODING CLASSES
Starts: Monday Oct. 4
Ends: Thursday, Dec. 16
Times: Class days and times will be explained during interview sessions.
Orientation: Thursday, Sept. 30, 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

• Successful completers will receive NCCT National Certified Insurance Coding Specialist Certificate.
• All course expenses (tuition, books, tools and lab materials) may be covered.
• Limited enrollment. Only applicants that fully complete the application process and meet all eligibility requirements can attend orientation.
