BC Jazz Band, Jazz Singers set for Oct. 17 concert

Members of the Brazosport College Jazz Band participate in a recent rehearsal for the upcoming concert on Oct. 17 at The Clarion.
The Brazosport College Jazz Band, under the direction of Richard Birk, and the Jazz Singers, under the direction of Rodney Mason, will perform their first concert of the fall semester on Saturday, October 17 at The Clarion at Brazosport College. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

The BC Jazz Band will perform a variety of jazz classics, including Sonny Rollins’ "Sonnymoon for Two," Duke Ellington’s "In a Mellow Tone," Thelonius Monk’s "Blue Monk," Charlie Parker’s “My Little Suede Shoes,” and Irving Berlin’s “Blue Skies,” as well as Rick Faulkner’s  “3
rd  Avenue Cumbia“ and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk.”

The BC Jazz Singers will perform Kirby Shaw’s setting of “Undecided,” Manhattan Transfer’s version of “How High the Moon,” New York Voices’ “Come Home” and “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard” and
theBurke/Van Heusen classic “Imagination.”

The BC Jazz Singers include Hannah Baird, Melissa Delafuente, Taylor Fox, Emma Rice, Leda Rice and Zachary Zarate. Jazz Band members are Clint Kennedy and Miguel Aguilera on trumpets, Elijah Green, Chad Lewis and Ruben Rodriguez on sax, Taylor Fox on trombone, Jonathan Peachey on guitar, Nathan Dowlen on piano, Dustin Campbell and E.J. Salazar on bass, and Andy Delafuente and Chris Varela on drums and percussion.

Admission to the concert is free and no tickets are required.
