Brazosport College & Community Band to present ‘Holiday Favorites’ concert

Fri Dec 6, 2019

The Brazosport College and Community Wind Ensemble will host a concert of Holiday Favorites at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9 at The Clarion at Brazosport College. The ensemble will be under the direction of Richard Birk and the performance will be offered at no cost to the public.

“Our program will include familiar holiday favorites as well as an audience sing-along,” Birk said. “We’ve got just the right selections to put folks in the holiday spirit.”

Selections scheduled to be performed on Dec. 9 include:

“Angels We Have Heard on High” — A fun, rock-and-roll inspired setting for the modern concert band of this classic English carol

“Veni, Veni (O Come, O Come Emmanuel)” — A beautiful adaptation for band of this Mannheim Steamroller favorite

“A Cambridge Carol” — A delightful arrangement of “Ding Dong Merrily on High”

“First Noel” — A clever version that combines Pachelbel’s Canon with this traditional carol

“A Jammin’ Caribbean Christmas” — An island-flavored medley of “The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy,” “Bring a Torch, Jeannette, Isabella” and “Go Tell It On The Mountain”

“We Wish You a Klezmer Christmas” — This colorful piece puts a new twist on traditional Christmas tunes with an East European Jewish folk music style accompaniment

“Christmas in a Nutshell — This whimsical arrangement contains 18 different holiday songs and Nutcracker excerpts set to a festive march tempo

“The Most Wonderful Time of the Year — A brilliant setting of this 1960s era carol

“Christmas Pop Sing-Along” — An audience sing-along including “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town,” “Silver Bells,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
