Brazosport College hosting public forum for input on presidential search on May 11
With the announcement of Brazosport College President Dr. Millicent Valek’s retirement in January 2022, the search to identify the College’s new president has begun.
The College’s Board of Regents is committed to a process that is fair, transparent, and inclusive, and ensures the College constituents will be updated throughout this process.
An important first step in the presidential search process is the development of a Presidential Profile, and the Board is welcoming input from the community during this process.
The College hosted two public forums on May 6, but one final session is scheduled on May 11 for those wanting to provide input. The forum will be held at 6 p.m. via Zoom.
The link to attend this final session is https://brazosport-edu.zoom.us/j/98965698481
The purpose of these forums is to collect feedback, which will be considered during the development of the Presidential Profile. Employees, students, and community members are invited and encouraged to participate in a wide-ranging discussion about the qualities, characteristics, and qualifications for the next president, as well as the opportunities and challenges facing the College in the years to come. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions about the presidential search process.
In addition to the public forums, a short electronic survey has been developed. Anonymous responses to the survey will also be considered in the development of the draft Presidential Profile. Electronic feedback must be submitted by 3 p.m. on May 12. The survey can be accessed at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/brazosport-college-presidental-search
Although the development of the Presidential Profile is the first step in the process, more opportunities for input will be available throughout the search process.
The Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) has been selected by the College’s Board of Regents to assist with the presidential search process. ACCT’s assistance will include providing support recruiting highly competitive candidates, working with the Search Committee, and supporting the Board of Regents. ACCT has conducted more than 750 community college searches across the nation and brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this process. ACCT’s mission is to strengthen community college governance through education, advocacy at local, state, and national levels, and exemplary search services.
More updates will be forthcoming about this important process. For further information and updates, please visit www.brazosport.edu/presidentialsearch.
